Spring Park

The Spring Park is located at the site of the natural spring which nurtured Newport at the time of its founding and around which the City was built.  Spring Park commemorates the values of freedom of religion, religious tolerance and separation of church and state on which the City was explicitly founded. This site is an integral part of Newport history that has been overlooked for centuries. With the creation of Spring Park it is now a place that everyone can enjoy.

Spring Park will create beautiful green space, improved pedestrian safety, connect neighborhoods and foster cultural and economic vitality.  We invite you to watch the documentary of Spring Park below.

“It is agreed and ordered that….this south west end of the island, shall be called Newport..and that the Towne shall be built upon both sides of the spring, and by the sea-side Southward”
